Soup and Chili Cook-off

September 17th a Soup and Chili Cook-off was held as a fundraiser for the Feed My Starving Children Southwest Iowa Mobile Pack.   There were 10 participants who prepared a soup or chili for the Cook-off.

Phil Perkins from the First Baptist Church with his Spicy Smoked Steak Chili placed first. Terri Irish from Abundant Life Church entered both a soup and a chili.  Terri took second place with her Broccoli cheddar Bacon Potato Soup.  Third place was captured by Chris Cacy from Fresh Encounter Church with Chris’ White Chicken Chili.

We had two soups and nine chilis entered.  There also was a bake sale, raffle items, and a jar to collect your loose change.  The total amount raised was equivalent to 5560 Manna Pack meals.

Each meal costs less than 25 cents to make, only 22 cents will feed a starving child.  On October 13 and 14th we will pack more than 108,000 meals by 500 volunteers, one of those volunteers may be you.  Each packing session is only two hours long.  You can go to fmsc.org to reserve you time slot to save lives.
