Our God is Like a Mountain

Our God is Like A Mountain

We have a guest author today: Lucy Poggensee also known as L.D. Poggensee.

“He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be shaken… Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:6,8 (NASB)

What comes to mind when you hear the word mountain? Maybe you think of a solid, immovable mound of rock? Or perhaps you think of something that stays relatively unchanged through the years? Or possibly the familiar image of a mountain’s peak rising above the clouds?

Did you know God is like a mountain? He is immovable in His decisions; the Bible says in Job 42:2(NIV) “You can do all things; no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.” When God decides to do something, He will accomplish it, and no one can stop him or stand in His way. When He makes a promise, He will keep it. This should be greatly encouraging. God is unchangeable in His character, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8 NIV). God’s character is steadfast; He will not change according to how you have acted or how you feel. He is always the same good, just, perfect, and loving God. Similar to a mountain, God rises above the world, being different from the world in thought and deed. “My ways are higher than your ways and My thoughts higher than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9 NLT). We may not always understand the things that are happening, but we can trust God, because we know he is always good. God can see the whole picture, and he has a plan and purpose for everything that happens.

One more thing:

God is the refuge for His people, the safest place we can run to in times of trouble. To “pour out your heart before Him” means to tell God everything. God wants us to share everything with Him, and He wants us to trust Him completely with every secret. He will never make fun of you or laugh at your problems. God desires for us to rush to Him, before anything else, with any problem that comes up. God loves you with an everlasting love and He promises to never leave you.

“He only is my rock and my salvation, my stronghold; I shall not be shaken… Trust in Him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us.” Psalm 62:6,8(NASB)
