I Did It. Part 4

We were brought last week to the point where the child, Bathsheba had as a result of night with the king, is going to die.  David has been pleading with God for seven days for the child’s life, we plead with God even though the events are due to our sin, we want things different.

It will be helpful if you read 2 Samuel 12 as we look at David’s response.

2 Samuel 12:18 Then it happened on the seventh day that the child died. And the servants of David were afraid to tell him that the child was dead, for they said, “Behold, while the child was still alive, we spoke to him and he did not listen to our voice. How then can we tell him that the child is dead, since he might do himself harm!”

The mood has changed and David realizes things have changed, when he is informed the child has died his actions may surprise you.

2 Samuel 12:20 So David arose from the ground, washed, anointed himself, and changed his clothes; and he came into the house of the Lord and worshiped. Then he came to his own house, and when he requested, they set food before him and he ate.

David worshiped, when we are in turmoil we go to church and worship usually with thanksgiving because things turned out well despite our concerns.  David does not go to worship because he pleaded with God and God listened, letting the child live.  David goes to the house of the Lord and worships because that is David’s response to God.  David loves God, they have a deep relationship.

David agrees with God, he shows this by worshiping God.  David knows God, trusts God and loves God.  David is also aware God knows him and loves him.

David knows the events will not end the relationship, and our actions don’t end our relationship with God either.  David had let the world guide his steps, we let the world guide our steps.

Jesus paid the price for our mistakes on the cross.  God wants to fellowship with us and for us to spend time with Him alone.  When we get to know God more we listen to the world less.

As we get to know God at a deeper level we accept Him as Lord of our lives and agree with Him as He gives us guidance through life.

God’s Word is open and inviting us to a deeper relationship with God.

I Did It! will conclude next week.
