We are all familiar with an eye mask, if you work during the night you use these to block out the light to help your body think daytime is actually night time. We deceive our eyes to allow us to get the needed rest we need. If it was alright in your mind to sleep during daylight hours there would be no need for the mask. We willingly put the mask on by our own choice, a person that is blindfolded against their will does not find the darkness calming but alarming.
We often willingly block out the light of truth to deceive ourselves so our mind tries to believe it is alright to do something we actually know is wrong. We can accept the lies because we think it will make our lives easier and more enjoyable but they don’t. We often do this with small stuff in our lives and as we don’t seem to get caught we do it more and increase what we believe will be to our benefit. We listen to the sources that agree with the lies we want to believe.
2 Timothy 4:3-4 For the time will come when people will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear. They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
We try to block out God’s truth, we tell ourselves and anyone who stumbles across our misdeeds that it is alright, some sins we justify because we claim everyone is doing it. But in our heart we know it is wrong. We know and God knows also. God knows us entirely he knows when we rise and when we sleep he knows our very thoughts and he is always encourages us to live in the light and to step out of the darkness.
Psalm 139:1-4 You have searched me, Lord, and you know me. You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar. You discern my going out and my lying down; you are familiar with all my ways. Before a word is on my tongue you, Lord, know it completely.
This is not for just the Christians but also for the nonbelievers. People are not sheltered from God’s all-knowing presence simply because they choose to ignore Him. Even though many people block out the light and choose to live in darkness does not mean that God is not right beside them.
Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
We need to have the Word open before us to have it illuminate our path. We need to come to welcome the Word so we carry it with us in our hearts so true light is shed upon our actions and our thoughts.
James 1:25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
The Holy Bible does not put us into bondage the Word give us freedom. We accept and believe this freedom when we have formed a relationship with the author. God wants a relationship with you and when you invite Him into your life and heart God is delighted.
Psalm 119:45 I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts.
God doesn’t want us to blindfold ourselves to the lies that want to consume us. God wants us to walk in freedom that comes from the truth, free to choose what we truly know is right.
Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
God wants to us to learn from Him through a deep and loving relationship with Him. When you sit with God’s Word open and look for Him you will be in God’s presence. God’s light will shine in your lives and offer hope to others.
