Dance

God wants you to dance, much like a mother twirls her small child in her arms.  God wants us to have joy and laughter in our life which shows we have hope.  King David took great joy in dancing before the Lord.  He is noted for being a man after God’s own heart.

Samuel 6:14-16 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might, while he and all Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with shouts and the sound of trumpets.

God’s ark would finally be where it belonged and David danced.

King David was honoring God but we can always do things God wants in the wrong manner.  The daughter of Herodias danced in such a way to please Herod.  It is doubtful that it was like a beautiful ballet and Herod had a heart for the arts.  The dance more likely pleased him in a more carnal nature.

Matthew 14:6-10 On Herod’s birthday the daughter of Herodias danced for the guests and pleased Herod so much that he promised with an oath to give her whatever she asked.  Prompted by her mother, she said, “Give me here on a platter the head of John the Baptist.”  The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he ordered that her request be granted and had John beheaded in the prison.

Herod had not anticipated his offer would take him in this direction.  We need to seek God to guard our actions from leading us astray.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot,  a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance,

We do need to take time in our life to grieve and cry.   God wants us to be compassionate and care for each other, He will be there for us in our pain.

Jeremiah 31:13 Then young women will dance and be glad, young men and old as well. I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.

Watching the smile of a small child puts joy and hope in our heart.  God wants us to have hope and to dance.
