You can have a happy new year when you realize the past is exactly that, the past. God does not care what you did five minutes ago. You don’t need the clock to hit midnight to think you can have a fresh start.
Every moment carries the potential to turn from any sin you committed and start fresh.
Ecclesiastes 7:20 Indeed, there is not a righteous person on earth who always does good and does not ever sin.
We are all in the same situation and God knew this when Jesus died on the cross for your sins.
One of the most recognizable verses from the Holy Bible reminds you of the simple truth.
John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life.
Why does God love you? Love is God’s genetic makeup. God doesn’t have to decide to love. You make the choice to love, God is just pure love.
1 John 4:8 The one who does not love does not know God, because God is love.
God cares about the next 5 minutes because you have the opportunity to make the right choice. Sometimes this gives you the opportunity to forgive someone or seek forgiveness from someone.
Because of God’s love He wants the best for you. To be lost in sin is not the best. You may rationalize you are content in your sin but your heart tells you differently.
My hope is you have a Happy New Year knowing you can have a fresh start at any moment not just once a year.
One of the best ways to prepare for a new start is to spend time with God through reading the Holy Bible. Reading the Bible is not homework but a time to connect with the God who loves you.
As you open God’s word invite Him to join you:
Lord, come, sit with me for a while and tell me about Yourself.
